Named after the Latin word meliora – meaning “better things” – this striking and immersive installation represented the pursuit of positive change. Enhanced by dynamic lighting and a custom soundscape, Barking and Dagenham citizens were invited to move through Meliora’s abstract and interwoven curves. Meliora was presented in Barking Riverside between 6 and 11 September and aimed to inspire reflection, empathy and collective cooperation for a better future.
With over 10,000 visitors across the week, the Meliora programme brought the community together to experience the talents of local creatives — from the rhythms of African drumming and the vibrancy of Bollywood dance to the calm of yoga, meditation, and a restorative sound bath.
Meliora is an artwork by studio Atelier Sisu and was presented by Creative Barking and Dagenham in partnership with Barking Riverside Limited, with the support of #GlobalStreets and funding from Arts Council England.
