Winter Lights Parades Proudly brought to you by Creative Barking and Dagenham, led by the internationally acclaimed street theatre company, Picto Facto and with support from Global Streets and Arts Council England.
In November 2024, Creative Barking & Dagenham partnered with Picto Facto, to bring magic to the streets with the Winter Light Parades, an unforgettable celebration of light, music, and community!
Led by the internationally renowned street theatre company Picto Facto from Toulouse, France, the parades transformed Barking and Dagenham into a glowing, interactive wonderland.
Their show, Lampadophores, filled the borough with giant illuminated puppets, playful choreography, and vibrant street performances that lit up the winter nights.
Hundreds of residents joined in, carrying their own handmade lanterns alongside the performers, making each parade a truly community-led experience.
Ahead of the parades we invited the local residents to join us in making bright and colourful light boxes for the community. This was a series of creative making workshop suitable for all ages and took place in community venues across the borough.
Residents had the opportunity to make colourful light box complete with fairy lights and a personalised message for someone else in the community. When attending the parade, attendees were able to pick up a custom light box with a message from someone else that they were able to take home.
We organised over 25 creative workshops in Barking & Dagenham! Thank you everyone who took part in making over 1000 light boxes for the Winter Light Parades.
