Morphosis
September 2024, Abbey Green, Barking
Morphosis came to the borough in September 2024. An extraordinary and growing, large-scale art by French company Compagnie Moso.
The project invited the entire community to come together help build a giant bamboo sculpture.
Building Together
Over three days, hundreds of people gathered to help bind the bamboo together, contributing their time, creativity, and effort to build something truly spectacular.
The excitement grew in both children and adults when the first bamboo canes were unloaded with helping-hands appearing within minutes to start making the giant structure and explore the temporary spaces it created on the green.
The bamboo installation grew taller and more intricate each day, continuously evolving as more and more people participated.
The work came to Abbey Green in Barking as part of Global Streets, a national network we belong to.
Network partners co-create and present international outdoor arts events with communities living and working in places which are underserved by the arts.
Alongside the sculpture we offered creative workshops for people to express their dreams and to make mini-sculptures, which intrigued adults and children.
