Alongside Barking Riverside, we were delighted to present Meliora, a large architectural sculpture by artistic duo Atelier Sisu, which made its European premiere at Barking Riverside from 6–12 September 2025.
Named after the Latin word meliora – meaning “better things” – this striking and immersive installation represents the pursuit of positive change. Enhanced by dynamic lighting and a custom soundscape, you are invited to move through Meliora’s abstract and interwoven curves. The artwork aims to inspire reflection, empathy and collective cooperation for a better future.
Galleon Arts Centre is entering an exciting new chapter and local people are part of shaping what comes next. Galleon Arts Centre in Barking was opened in 1980. It was refurbished as an arts centre in 2021 but closed in 2023 after the organisation that managed it ceased trading. It partially reopened in 2024 with activities and events organised by a freelance team.
